Paul Adams is a London artist and art teacher at local colleges and schools. He studied in Nottingham. His method of working has grown out of a need to express rather than illustrate what he feels. The starting point of her work is in the formal and emotional context of contrast. The use of varying paint applications: the marks and patterns he uses: the vocabularly of forms and motifs, all make reference to the principal of opposites. Some of the work is on board. This enables him to work in a more physical way. He can incise and gouge; scrape back current areas of paint to reveal previously painted areas. This leads to an element of unpredictability in what is found. PaulŐs interst lies in what happens when he sets up a relationship between her idea, the formal process, automatism and chance. The recording of his response and decisions to those encounters become the painting.
