Katy Ellis studied at the Blackheath School of Art (Foundation) and Glasgow School of Fine Art, University of Glasgow (BA Hons, 1995).

On finishing her degree at Glasgow she was awarded a travelling scholarship from the Royal Scottish Academy to paint and study in Italy. She was greatly inspired by such a rich vibrant culture and landscape and when she returned to England she developed her ideas into paintings and later exhibiting them. The experience led her to travel further in order to paint in India and south east Asia, where she spent two years.

When choosing a theme she likes to explore it for some time taking it in different directions, trying always to remain inventive and not fall too much into a particular style. She has recently worked from sketch books and photographs to develop paintings of her time in India.

Her work has been published in Premier from Windsor & Newton, painting books and The Artist magazine. She has exhibited widely since 1996 in Barnet, London, Ely and Texas USA.
